The Perth Mint’s annual interpretations of the Australian Kookaburra have been highly sought-after since the launch of the resoundingly successful 1oz bullion coin in 1990. Australia’s ‘king of the bush’ is illustrated in full flight against the backdrop of a harvest moon. The detailed depiction evokes how the kookaburras’ characteristic ‘laugh’ is often heard when the moon can be seen, either during the evening when kookaburras are roosting for the night or at daybreak as they awake.
