The year 2020 marked the 24th year for the Platinum American Eagle series and it also marks the last year of production for “Preamble to the Declaration of Independence Platinum Proof Coin Series” that started in 2018. This series became sought after because for the first time, the United States Mint has issued a series featuring all new obverse designs created concurrently by one designer, as well as a new common reverse design. The 2020 obverse design depicts Lady Liberty harvesting the fruits of her labor with a young girl at play nearby. The overflowing cornucopia she carries is a symbol of the physical, intellectual, and spiritual bounty only liberty makes possible—the good things that nourish the body, enliven the mind, and satisfy the soul. The home, orchard, and silo represent American hopes, values, and aspirations and bring to a close the narrative told throughout the backgrounds of the series—from furrowed earth to prairies and mountains, and finally to an agrarian field. The stubble field alludes to the ingenuity and exertion required to claim Liberty’s promise.
Furthermore, this piece is hand signed by the Honorable Mike Castle, who is also known as "The Coinage Congressman.” Mike Castle is responsible for introducing legislation that authorized several important modern US coin programs while he served as a member of the US House of Representatives from 1993–2011. He also has authored and or sponsored bills that resulted in the transformative 50 States Quarters Program, the Sacagawea Dollar, the Presidential Dollar Series, and numerous commemoratives.
