Then look no further than this beautiful piece that pays homage to famed U.S Mint Engraver, Augustus Saint Gaudens. To recreate this masterpiece, the mint used the original plaster models for the coins that were hand-sculpted by Saint-Gaudens himself. Upon its release, these coins sold out quickly at the Mint. Only 115,178 coins were minted and less than 9% of these coins have achieved the perfect Mint State 70 grade by NGC. The first coin struck was sent to the Smithsonian Museum for safekeeping and the U.S Mint kept one to add to its collection. At first glance, you will notice how deep and beautiful the high relief detail is on this piece which is achieved by 4mm thick planchets being struck twice with 65 metric tons of pressure. This is one of those truly exquisite pieces that deserve a place in your collection.
