Platinum is a soft metal that can be marked with little effort.MS70 Platinum American Eagles are sought after because of the difficulty it takes to get perfectly graded coin. There were only 39,734 quarter-ounce bullion Platinum American Eagles minted in 1999, and only 33 pieces have been graded perfect 70 by NGC. The Platinum American Eagle has the distinction of being the only platinum bullion coin in the U.S Mint issues each year. However, fractional pieces such as this, were later discontinued. This is a beautiful example of an early year quarter-ounce Platinum American Eagle and is a great addition to any collection.
